‘Keep at it, Metro Ladies!’〜Rally for casual workers draws tears and laughters

More than 200 people were mesmerized by the charm of Metro Ladies, who are kiosk vendors at Tokyo Metro stations, on Nov. 22 at a rally to cheer on the women and thousands of other casual workers in Japan. People left messages after the event: “It was a great event full of tears and laughters. I was touched. The women’s charm put aside, documentary films were also powerful drawing applaud from the audience. It’s just like a movie featuring TAKAKURA Ken, one of the most popular Japanese actors, who passed away recently. Each of the women’s words hit deep inside our souls. They gave us a chance to think about what a labor union is and should be. Wage discrimination was not the only thing. The company does not even distribute in-house newsletters to casual workers. ‘Enough is enough,’” a participant sent a message.

The event ended with an original Metro Ondo. The women wore “enflaming hats” to express anger against the company and danced with participants. They all chanted they would never give up even if they are casual workers. (By M)

涙あり 笑あり 感動ありの「がんばれメトロレディー！非正規大集会」

11 月22日の「がんばれメトロレディー！非正規大集会」には約200人が集まり、メトロレディーの魅力に圧倒された。さっそく感想が寄せられた。「涙あり、 笑あり、感動ありの素晴らしい集会だった。当該と闘いの持つ魅力もさることながら、映像の力も大きい。上映中に会場から拍手が起こるのは健さんの映画の時 のようだ。第二部の本音トークの言葉の一つ一つが胸を打つ。彼女たちの言葉に組合とは何かという問題を改めて感じた。差別は賃金だけではなかった。社内報 ですら配布されるのは正社員だけ｡非正規社員には配布されない。何から何までやはり『がまんも限界だ』」（Uさん）。フィナーレは「メトロ音頭」。怒りの メラメラハットのコマース支部を先頭に、会場を練り歩いた。そして参加者全員で手をつなぎ「非正規だからって あきらめないぞー！あきらめないぞー！」と一斉にコールした。「11.22 がんばれメトロレディー！非正規大集会」は、新しいスタイルのユニオン集会となった。（M）
