Unprecedented law enables Japan to wage war

The Liberal Democratic Party and the Komeito on March 20 reached an agreement on the framework of the National Security Law, which is unprecedented and enables the Self-Defense Forces to wage war any time anywhere.

 People angry with the government gathered outside the Diet with signs earlier. “You can’t rewrite the constitution in a closed door session,” “This is a coup d’etat,” “The government turned the national security law 180 degrees within a month,” the signs read. The protesters—majority of them women—directed their anger toward the government, which decided on the important issue without the democratic process.

 This marked the fifth protest drawing more than 100 people. “We expect the legislation to be proposed in May,” TAKADA Ken, president of a steering committee, said. “We are the voters. Let’s stop the war legislation by staging a massive protest around the Diet until July.” (By M)

3 月20日、自公が合意した「安全保障法制の骨格」は、いつでもどこでも自衛隊が戦争 できるというトンデモないもの。この日午前9時から、怒りの市民が手に 手にメッセージボードを持って国会前に集まった。圧倒的に女性が多い。「憲法を密室で勝手に変えていいのか」「これはクーデター だ」「わずか1ヶ月で安保 法制を180度 転換した」。集会発言者の一番の怒りは、これほど重大な問題を「勝手に決めた」ことへの怒りだった。2月20日から自公協議の たびに抗議を 続けてきたこの行動も5回目になり、この日は100人以上が集まった。主催実行委員の高田健氏は「5月には法案として出てくる。主権者は私たちだ。5月3 日の憲法大集会 を皮切りに、5・6・7月は国会周辺で巨大な行動を起こして、戦争法制を絶対に阻止しよう」と厳しい表 情で訴えた。（M）
