No to Abe’s runaway politics! – 7,000 join a May Day rally in Tokyo

Approximately 7,000 joined the 86th May Day at the Hibiya Open-Air Concert Hall in central Tokyo on May 1, 2015 that was very sunny. Many more had to wait outside the hall. The organizer focused on all-out confrontation against runaway policies of the administration of Prime Minister ABE Shinzo, which include the significant deterioration of labor laws, Japan’s stronger military involvement in the global arena in defiance of its peace constitution, support for the controversial TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership), and the attempt to restart nuclear power plants against public opinion. Then, reports from the Postal Industry Workers Union members who fight against discriminatory treatment, Japanese Brazilians fighting against unfair practices, and unfairly dismissed workers of Fujibi Corporation, a printing company, followed. Many of placards carried during the rally said, “No Nukes”. (M)
