"Don't terminate housing support for evacuees from Fukushima!"; Canadians protest at Japanese Embassy in Ottawa

A protest action was lodged in the afternoon of October 13 in front of the embassy of Japan in Ottawa, the Canadian capital, to demand the Japanese government continuation of the housing support for those who fled from radiation after the the disaster of TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in March, 2011. and continue to live elsewhere in Japan. The support is planned to be discontinued at the end of March, 2017. In solidarity with the evacuees from Fukushima, some 350 Canadian citizens took part in the action organized by FRAPRU (the Front d’action populaire en réaménagement urbain) Montreal, one of the coordinating organizations of the section of housing and land issues in the World Social Forum that took place in Montreal in summer this year.  As some evacuees from Fukushima took part in the WSF and talked about the present situations of the people affected by the nuclear accident, the housing and land issues section as a whole decided to make efforts in solidarity with those displaced by the accident in Fukushima. The protest at the Japanese embassy was held as a token of solidarity. The protesters posted signs prepared by FRAPRU that say "Evacuate residents of the places contaminated with radioactivity" in French, English and Japanese all over the fence of the premises of the embassy.
