More than 200 gather for International Memorial Day for comfort women

More than 200 people came together to commemorate war-time sex slaves on Aug. 14 in Tokyo. The event called, “Talk & Concert ～International Memorial Day for Comfort Women,” was organized by Japan Network against Wartime Sexual Violence to mark the day when a Korean woman Kim Hak-sun, breaking half a century of silence in 1991, came out as a victim of the sexual slavery by the Imperial Japanese Army. Her courageous protest against the slavery encouraged other victims in various regions in Asia to bring charges against the Japanese government. The day was designated as International Memorial Day for Comfort Women at the 11^th Asian Solidarity Conference held in Taipei in December, 2012, to remember the history of the victimization and people’s struggle against the injustice. ８.１４ 日本軍「慰安婦」メモリアル・デー～東京でトーク＆ コンサート

 
8 月14日、東京・日比谷コンベンションホールにおいて、＜日本軍「慰安婦」メモリア ル ・デー＞トーク＆コンサートが、開催されました。主催は戦時性暴力問題連絡協議会で、全体の参加者は約207名。８月14日は、1991年に韓国の金学順 さんが日本軍「慰安婦」被害者として、初めて名乗り出た日です。半世紀の沈黙を破った、この勇気ある告発が契機となって、アジア各地の被害女性たちが、加 害国日本政府の責任を問い始めました。この被害と闘いの歴史を忘れないために、８月14日 を＜日本軍「慰安婦」メモリアル・デー＞にしようと決めたのは、 2012年12月の台北での第11回 アジア連帯会議です。（佐藤和之）
