Listen to the people’s voice: No Nukes! Over 100 thousand surround the Prime Minister’s Office

 

The anger of people opposing the restart of Oi nuclear power plant exploded on June 29. The Prime Minister’s Office in Tokyo was surrounded by more than 100 thousand demonstrators who started out walking on the sidewalks, but quickly flowed onto the road. The police had to acquiesce to make the main road to the Prime Minister’s Office a free space for the people. It was the first time since the protest actions against the signing of Japan-US Security Treaty in 1960 that the Diet building and the Prime Minister’s Office were surrounded by a mass demonstration. There were many press helicopters in the air. The Labornet TV crew was there to live-broadcast and interview the participants, most of whom were first-comers. All of them were earnest, saying “Absolutely no to nukes!” “We just have to take action.” Ordinary citizens who have not taken part in any social movements were there with handmade placards, banners, etc. At 8 pm, organizers called on the participants to disperse to ensure the next action. The rally ended peacefully. June 29 will undoubtedly become a historic day for the No Nukes uprising in Japan. (M)

「原発いらない」民の声を聞け！～官邸前を埋め尽くした10万超える人々

6 月29日、大飯原発再稼働に反対する人々の怒りが爆発した。首相官邸前は10万人をこえる人々で埋まった。最初参加者は歩道に並んでいたが、続々と集まる 人の群れで歩道は限界に達し、遂に車道にまで広がっていった。警察も黙認、官邸前・国会脇の大通りは完全に「解放区」となった。そこは人、人、人の波だっ た。「紫陽花革命」の大きなプラカードが目立つ。国会・官邸前の「巨大デモ」の出現は、60年安保以来の画期的出来事になった。空にはヘリコプターが何台 も飛びマスコミ報道も過熱した。「レイバーネットTV」はチームを組んで、参加者の生の声を聞いたが、初めて参加した人が圧倒的に多かった。「原発は絶対 だめだ」「行動を起こすしかない」、みな真剣だ。これまで活動とは無縁のフツーの人たちが手作りのアピールグッズを手にやってきた。午後8時、巨万の人々 は主催者の「次に繋げるためにここで解散しよう」との呼びかけに応え、整然と行動を終了し解散した。2012年6月29日は、まちがいなく「脱原発・世直 し運動」の歴史的な日になった。（M）

45 thousand gather for “Hydrangea Revolution” No restart! Action in front of Prime Minister’s Office

 

On June 2, 45 thousand people gathered in front of the Prime Minister’s Office to protest the restart of the Oi nuclear power plant. The government office area was filled with  chants of “Saikadou Hantai (No restart)”. There were many young people, one of whom said “I just had to come today.” Everyone gathered on a Friday evening to protect their own lives and to protest the Noda government which neglects the wish of the majority of people to stop reactivation of the plant. The Prime Minister’s Office was quickly surrounded by multiple rows of demonstrators, who also filled the pavement on the other side of the road. This movement was named “Hydrangea Revolution” by some of the participants. I hope that this revolution will truly become a process in which the wish of the people will be fulfilled, the restart of nuclear power plants will be blocked and  the decommissioning of all plants will be finally realized. 「再稼働反対！官邸前行動」に4万5千人～誰が名付けた「紫陽花革命」

6月22日、「再稼働反対」の声が霞が関の夜空に響いた。この晩、大飯原発再稼働を強行突破した野田佳彦首相に抗議するため、4万5千人（主催者発表）が首相官邸前に集まった。「今日こそは来なくちゃ いけないと思った」と話す20代、30代の若者も目立った。みなそれぞれ、再稼働反対の大多数の国民の意思を無視した野田政権へ抗議するため、また自分たちの命を守るために金曜日の夜に結集した。集会開始1時間も経たないう ちに首相官邸前には2、3列にならんだ市民が一周し、またたく間に反対側の歩道も人で埋まるほどのうねりになった。だれが命名したのか、再稼働反対の運動は「紫陽花（アジサイ）革命」と呼ばれる。この革命が、真の意味で 民意を貫き通す革命として、原発の再稼働を撤回、ひいては原発を廃炉にするまでに発展することを願う。（松元ちえ）

Believe in people power!~Urgent action at Prime Minister’s Office against resumption of Oi Nuclear Power Plant

 

“Don’t decide by yourself, PM Noda!” About 200 people joined the urgent action at Prime Minister’s Office on May 31, when the Cabinet ministers’ meeting was held. People wore tense, angry expressions on their faces as the prime minister was threatening to restart Oi Nuclear Power Plant. “We cannot let the four ministers ignore our calls. We cannot give up now. We must raise our voices together with people of Fukui Prefecture and let the prime minister hear them,” said SUGIHARA Koji, one of the action organizers. Aside of Noda, Minister of State for Nuclear Power Policy and Administration HOSONO Goshi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry EDANO Yukio and Chief Cabinet Secretary FUJIMURA Osamu attended the meeting. 

 “Considering the safety alone, Oi plant should not be restarted,” YANAGIDA Makoto of No Nukes Plaza “Tanpopo-sha” said of Oi plant, which has no vent systems or earthquake-resistant management facilities. “The two-week period from today is very important. Believe in our power that drove all 50 nuclear power plants to suspension. Let’s put all our hearts into this action.” Yanagida called for joint actions planned at nuclear plants in Fukui and Ehime prefectures, which are threatened for restart. (By M)

 私たちの力を信じて全力尽くそう!～大飯再稼動反対で官邸前緊急アクション

「野 田首相、勝手に決めるな！」。大飯原発再稼動に大きく政府が動く中、5月31日夜、「閣僚会議に抗議！官邸前緊急アクション」が行われ約200人が参加し た（写真）。参加者の表情は険しかった。主催者の杉原浩司さんは「4閣僚の暴挙は許せない。ここであきらめるわけにはいかない。福井現地と連携して、官邸 にきちんと声をぶつけていこう」と訴えた。たんぽぽ舎の柳田真さんは「大飯原発には免震重要棟もベントもない。安全面だけでも再稼動はまったくおかしい。 これからの2週間が大事だ。これまで50基の原発を止めてきた私たちの力を信じて、全力をつくそう」と語り、福井（6/3）・伊方（6/10）の現地結集 や様々な行動への参加を訴えた。（М）

Stop the restart of Oi Nuclear Plant Hunger strike waged in from of MET

More than 150 people gathered at the tent space in front of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry on April 17^th noon. An out-door press conference to announce the start of a hunger-strike to stop the restart of Oi Nuclear Power Plant was held at the venue. Many reporters from the mass media including NHK, Asahi TV, Kyodo Press, Tokyo Shinbun and many foreign press, as well as independent, net-media attended the conference. On the podium were speakers, KAMATA Satoshi and OCHIAI Keiko and the tent dwellers in their white happi coats.(Photo) Diet members from the Social Democratic Party, TERUYA Kantoku and HATTORI Ryoichi and the Our Party, KAWADA Ryuhei joined the event. 23 people went into hunger strike that day, but more are expected to join later. “Anyone can appeal to the public by simply joining the hunger strike. You can participate just for one day, so please join us. Let’s join hands to stop the Tomari Nuclear Power Plant on May 5^th and make it the best present for children on Children’s Day!” appealed the organizer of the action. (M)

 大飯再稼働阻止！集団ハンストがスタート 

4 月17日正午、経産省前テントひろばは150人をこえる黒山の人だかりとなった。ここで「大飯原発再稼働ヤメロ！集団ハンスト」開始の街頭記者会見が行わ れた。NHK・テレビ朝日・共同通信・東京新聞などのマスコミから、海外メディア、フリーやネットメディアの姿が見える。演壇には、鎌田慧・落合恵子・広 瀬隆・中嶌哲演住職・神田香織、そしてテントひろばのメンバーがハッピ姿で並んだ（写真）。社民党の照屋寛徳・服部良一、みんなの党の川田龍平ら国会議員 も駆けつけ会見は盛り上がった。この日ハンストに突入したのは23人だが、今後の呼びかけで大きな規模に膨れる予定だ。主催者は、「ハンストはどこでもで きるアピール手段。1日でもいいからハンスト登録をしてほしい。そして5月5日の泊原発停止で原発ゼロを絶対に実現し、子どもたちに最良・最高のプレゼン トをしよう」と呼びかけた。また、フランスなど海外からも応援メッセージが届いた。（M）
