After working for 20 years at ICC Language
School, Sulejman Brkic, a teacher of French and English, was summarily
dismissed when he asked for a paid leave. The school’s reply was that he was
not an employee, but on a service contract, so he had no right to a paid leave.
On June 28th, Brkic held a silent
demonstration at the school’s main office in Yokohama. From 9 am to 7 pm, he
stood silently in the rain with a placard in his hand. He didn’t sit nor eat,
just took some water. He said he was encouraged by kind words from a passerby.The action was supported by

6 月28日(土)、スレイマン・ブルキッチさんのICC外語学院による不当解雇に対する「サイレント・デモ」が横浜にある本社前で行われた。時折、小雨に降 られながらも朝9時から夜7時まで、プラカードを持ったまま立つだけの抗議行動に、スレイマンさんは終始、食事も摂らず座ることもせず、水分補給のみで静 かに立ち続けた。行動には全国一般東京ゼネラル労組の組合員他、5名ほどの方が駆けつけた。通りかかったある親子から「がんばってください」と声をかけら れたことが嬉しいと、スレイマンさんは語った。スレイマンさんはICC外語学院で20年間、英語とフランス語の講師として働いてきた。有給休暇の取得を求 めたところ、会社側から「社員ではなく業務委託なので、有給休暇はない」と回答され、その後突然解雇された。（土屋トカチ）
