“I want to fight out the struggle against karoshi”: 5th NAKAJIMA Tomio Prize Award Ceremony

On August 7, 2011, the Dragon Fund to Eliminate Karoshi held the 5th NAKAJIMA Tomio Prize Award Ceremony in central Tokyo and awarded the prize to FUKIAGE Satoru (left on the photo) and Takako (right on the photo) who held the top management of a big business responsible for karoshi, death from overwork of their son. The venue of the ceremony was filled with 128 audiences. Mr. Fukiage said, “It is still hard for us to believe that we lost our son who entered a public company on the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. We would like to fight out the struggle against karoshi. We have to make it a thing of the past”. Ms. Fukiage commented, “Our son of 186cm and 96kg passed away suddenly. 「妥協せずとことん闘いたい」～第5回中島富雄賞授賞式開かれる
「過労死をなくそう！龍基金」は8月7日、第5回中島富雄賞授賞式を東京・葛飾で開催し、長男の過労死を受けて大手企業トップの賠償責任を初めて認めさせた父親の吹上了（さとる）さん（写真左）と母親の隆子さん（右）を、今年の中島賞として表彰しました。128人の参加で会場は満員となりました。中島代表から表彰状を受け取った了さんは「まさか東証一部上場の大企業に入って大事な子どもを亡くすとは。妥協せずにとことんまで闘いたい。日本から過労死を絶対になくさないといけない」、隆子さんは「186センチ96キロの息子が一瞬にして亡くなった。同じ背格好の子を街で見かけると息子を思い出す。最高裁で係争中であるが、がんばって闘っていく」と受賞の言葉を述べました。（須田光照）・動画（UnionTube）

“No More Karoshi! Ryu Foundation” award ceremony – With 130 people

The “No More Karoshi! Ryu Foundation” held the 4th Ceremony of the Nakajima Tomio Award in Katsushika Ward, Tokyo on August 1, 2010. The foundation gave the Nakajima Award of this year to Teranishi Emiko, who filed suit against the Japanese government for the disclosure of names of companies whose employees have died from overwork (President of the National Association for Bereaved Families of Karoshi Victims, center in the photo. Karoshi: Death from overwork). The venue was filled with 130 people partly thanks to a commemorative speech by Utsunomiya Kenji, the president of the Japan Federation of Bar Associations and the Anti-Poverty Campaign. Before the start of the award ceremony, all the participants offered a silent prayer to the photos of Nakajima Tomio, who was husband of Nakajima Haruka (right in the photo of this report), the president of the Ryu Foundation, and died from karoshi in 2004 when he was a store manager of Skylark, a family restaurant chain, and of Maesawa Takayuki, who was a son of Maesawa Emiko (left), the vice president of the foundation, and also died from karoshi in 2007 when he was a contract store manager of the same restaurant chain. 「過労死をなくそう！龍基金」は8月1日、第4回中島富雄賞授賞式を東京・葛飾で開催し、過労死を出した企業名の公表を求めて国を提訴した原告の寺西笑子さん（全国過労死を考える家族の会代表・写真中央）を今年の中島賞の受賞者として表彰しました。日本弁護士連合会の会長で反貧困ネットワーク代表である宇都宮健児弁護士の記念講演もあり、会場には満員の130人が集まりました。授賞式の冒頭、龍基金の代表である中島晴香さん（右）の夫で、すかいらーくの店長として2004年に過労死で亡くなった中島富雄さんと、副代表の前澤笑美子さん（左）の長男で、すかいらーくの契約店長として2007年に過労死で亡くなった前澤隆之さんの遺影に向かって参加者全員で黙とうをささげました。（須田光照）

Maesawa Emiko, winning lawsuit against Skylark, awarded ? “Ryu

　The “Ryu Foundation for No More Karoshi!”, which has striven for the
eradication of karoshi, or death from overwork, held an award ceremony
of the 3rd Nakajima Tomio Prize in Katsushika Ward, Tokyo on August 9,
2009. About 170 people participated in the ceremony. Representing the
selection committee, Sataka Makoto, a critic, announced the award-winner
of this year. He explained the reason why Maesawa Emiko was selected,
“Her victory is a precious example in our usually unwinnable struggle
against karoshi”. Ms. Maesawa (in the photo), who received the
commendation, said, “I had regarded karoshi as being a thing in another
world until I became the bereaved. I really feel regrettable because
Skylark did not keep its word ‘Never again’ it had said when Mr.
Nakajima, a former Skylark employee, died from overwork. I am determined
to raise my voice and make utmost efforts for the eradication of karoshi”.

すかいらーくに勝った前沢笑美子さんが受賞～「過労死をなくそう！龍基金」
　過労死の撲滅に取り組んでいる「過労死をなくそう！龍基金」は8月9日、第3回
中島富雄賞授賞式を東京・葛飾で開催しました。約170人の市民が出席しました。
選考委員会を代表して、評論家の佐高信さんが今年の受賞者を発表。前沢笑美子
さんに決まった理由を「勝つことがあまりない私たちの闘いで前沢さんの解決は
貴重な例だ」と話しました。中島代表から表彰状を手渡された前沢さん（写真）
は「自分が遺族になるまで、過労死は別世界のことと捉えていた。すかいらーく
は中島さんが過労死した際に『二度と起こさない』と言っていたのに、本当にく
やしい。過労死根絶のため全力で声を出し行動していこうと決意している」と受
