August 15 Anti-Yasukuni Action: Never give up! Keep fighting on!

The annual "anti-Yasukuni" rally and march organized by nine citizens'organizations took place in central Tokyo on August 15. The venue of the rally was overcrowded with some 250 people. "The number of participants this year is the largest in recent years. It apparently reflects the sense of crisis that people feel with the current Abe administration," said organizers. Rally participants repeatedly confirmed that they would never get resigned nor discouraged and keep doing whatever they can to block the constitutional revision planned by the Abe administration. The march to Yasukuni Shrine started later in the afternoon faced with harder-than-usual obstruction by right-wingers. They shouted at the demonstrators "Get out of Japan if you don't love the country!" and various other abusive phrases and tried to attack the marchers. Many times they managed to go through the row of fully geared riot police guarding the marchers and break into the parade. Eventually they even took away the march banner. Demonstrators however made it to the shrine in about an hour, chanting "No! to Yasukuni" and "No! to PM Abe's constitutional revision" all the way. あきらめず めげずに頑張ろう！～8.15反「靖国」行動に250人

8月15日、ことしも反「靖国」行動が9団体の呼びかけで東京・全水道会館で開催された。

会場は超満員で約250人。主催者は「最近では一番多い。安倍政権への危機感のあらわれ」と見ている。集会で強調されたのは、「安倍改憲政権のもとでもあきらめず、めげずに頑張ろう」ということだった。午後4時半から靖国神社に向けてデモが始まった。右翼の妨害も例年以上の激しさで、「日本がいやなら出て行け！」と口汚い言葉と怒号がデモに浴びせかけられた。完全武装の機動隊がデモをサンドイッチしているが、右翼が何度も殴り込み、隊列がしばしば崩れる。横断幕も奪われてしまった。しかし参加者は最後まで「靖国いらない」「安倍改憲反対」とアピールを続けた。妨害をはねかえし、1時間余の汗だくだくのデモを貫徹した参加者の顔はすがすがしかった。（M） 写真速報・デモ動画（YouTube 8分）

 

Down with systems sacrificing someone: No Yasukuni or Nukes! 450 join protest

On August 13, 2011, 450 participated in a “Light Yasukuni Shrine with Peace!” meeting at the Zendentsu Kaikan hall in central Tokyo. “Nukes and Yasukuni” were discussed based on the “Post 3.11 East Asia” at a symposium joined by representatives from South Korea, the mainland Japan, Okinawa and Taiwan. HAN Hong-goo from South Korea suggested that the administration of President LEE Myung-bak has worked toward building more nuclear power plants as being safe in the country and has an ambition to secure a nuclear weapon behind his promotion of nuclear power. TAKAHASHI Tetsuya, professor of the University of Tokyo and philosopher, said, “The representatives from all the regions agreed to anti-nukes. Nukes and Yasukuni are systems to sacrifice communities and people for national interests. They have no hope for us. It is time for us to build a society in which nobody is sacrificed”. After the gathering, the participants marched the street with candles in hands in central Tokyo, saying, “No Yasukuni or Nukes!” in defiance of harassment of nationalists. 「犠牲を強いるシステム」ヤスクニも原発もいらない！～キャンドル行動に450人
　8月13日、東京・全電通会館で「平和の灯を！ヤスクニの闇へ」キャンドル行動が行われ、集会・デモと併せて450人が参加した。韓国・日本・沖縄・台湾の4地域代表によるシンポジウムでは、「3・11後の東アジア」をテーマに「原発とヤスクニ」が論じられた。韓国の韓洪九さんは、李明博政権が韓国の原発は安全として原発拡大にまい進していること、背後に核兵器確保の野望があることなどを指摘した。高橋哲哉さんは、「初めての議論だったが、4地域の意見が反原発で期せずして一致した。原発・ヤスクニは国家利益のために地域や人間に犠牲を強いるシステム。ここに希望はない。誰もが犠牲にならない社会システムを目指していこう」と語った。参加者は、右翼の嫌がらせに負けずに、キャンドルを手に「ヤスクニも原発もいらない」と夜の都心を行進した。（M）　＊写真＝遺影をもって行進する靖国合祀反対の遺族

700 gather for candle-night demonstration at Yasukuni Shrine - Not bothered by right-wingers

The 5th Light the Peace Torch, Light the Darkness of Yasukuni! Candle Night Demonstration was held on August 14 at Tokyo’s Shakai Bunka Kaikan Hall, with about 700 people participating. Tokyo University Professor Tetsuya Takahashi criticized that Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan only implied South Korea and ignored North Korea in his talk to commemorate the centennial of the Two Koreas during a discussion event on colonial rule and the Yasukuni Shrine. The rally featured music, poem reading, victims’ testimonials and others, followed by a candle-light vigil. The demonstration was disturbed by right-wingers’ propaganda vans but continued shouting, “No War! ヤスクニキャンドル行動に700人～右翼の妨害はね返してデモ

Aug. 15 Action against “Safety and Reliability by way of War State” ?

　On August 15, 2009, the “August 15 Action against ‘Safety and
Reliability by way of War State’” was held at the Zen-Suido Hall in
the Suidobashi district, central Tokyo. August 15 is the day when World
War II ended 64 years ago. This year is the 20th anniversary of the
accession of the current Emperor Akihito and the 50th anniversary of his
marriage to Princess Michiko. Participants in the event discussed the
meaning of honoring events to be forced on the people, discrimination
and xenophobia, and the dangerous nature of the imperial system as an
apparatus to integrate them into war. The rally started from the venue
to the Yasukuni Shrine with banners spread and puppets hoisted. Rightist
groups that gathered along the rally course repeatedly attacked the

「戦争国家で安心安全」を問う8・15行動～靖国デモに右翼の襲撃
　「終戦の日」の8月15日、東京・水道橋の全水道会館で「『戦争国家で安心安全』
を問う8・15行動」が行なわれた。今年は、現天皇明仁が即位して20年目。皇后
美智子との結婚50年目にあたる。集会参加者は、閉塞と混迷が深まり、格差と貧
困が拡大する社会状況のなかで、これから強制されようとしている奉祝行事の意
味や、差別・排外主義、戦争へと国民を統合していく、装置としての天皇制の、
危険な本質を探った。会場前から出発したデモ行進は、横断幕を広げ、パペット
を青空に掲げて、靖国神社をめざした。コース周辺に集結した右翼団体らは、整
然とシュプレヒコールをあげる無抵抗のデモ隊に対し、各地で激しい襲撃を繰り
