YOKOTA Sakie: “Was I to trust him?”〜Questions regarding prime minister’s inaction

 

 “I thought our government and Foreign Ministry were going to do the right thing,” YOKOTA Megumi’s mother said at a press conference on Nov. 15. There had not been any progress made regarding the North Korean abductee issues, which led to her uttering, “Was I to trust him?” (Asahi Shimbun, Nov. 16)

 It has been 15 years since the incumbent prime minister accompanied then-prime minister Koizumi as a cabinet secretary. Ever since then, Abe kept announcing that he would show results of the North Korean abductee issues under the Abe administration in front of aging parents and other family members of the abductees. What efforts has he made ever since? He’d uttered words such as “pressure,” “sanctions,” “Now is not the time for dialogues,” “We reached an agreement with the US to put the utmost pressure against North Korea through any means necessary.”

 Despite the fact that North Korea’s attitude is problematic, Abe’s words are far off from necessary diplomatic policies. Yokota’s question toward Abe’s inaction still sounds a bit reserved. (By OTA Masakuni)

横田早紀江さん「信じていてよかったのか」〜首相の不作為に対する疑問

去る11月15日、めぐみさんの両親が記者会見を行なった。母親は語った。「政府も外務省もまじめにやってくださっていると思っていた」。だが進展もなく、「信じていてよかったのか」（朝日新聞11月16日付けに基づいて引用）。現首相は、官房副長官として小泉首相の訪朝に随行してから15年、その後は首相にまでなって、拉致被害者家族の集会に行っては、年老いてゆくばかりのご本人たちを前に「安倍政権下で拉致問題は必ず解決して見せる」と豪語したのは何回を数えるだろう？　そのための日々の努力をどんな形で行っているのだろう？　口を開けば「圧力」、「制裁」、「今は対話の時ではない」、「あらゆる手段を通じて北朝鮮に対する圧力を最大限まで高めることで米国と一致した」などと言うばかり。朝鮮国政府の態度にも大いに問題はあるとしても、この文言は、あるべき外交政策から大きく外れていよう。首相の不作為に対する疑問の言葉として、母親の言葉は、まだ遠慮がちに思える。（太田昌国）

Views lacking in reports on North Korea, the Japanese government, mainstream dailies〜Column “NORIMATSU Satoko’s eyes”

NORIMATSU Satoko at Peace Philosophy Center in Vancouver has been writing a series of column in Ryukyu Shimpo. Of that, I’d like to introduce one published on Sept. 19 on “Japanese and American media need self-discipline on biased reports on North Korea.” I felt that this is exactly what the Japanese government and Japanese mainstream media lack in North Korea-related reports. In other words, they lack consideration for the thousands of citizens in the Korean Peninsula and perception not to threaten the lives of the people. Has there been even a time when Prime Minister Abe or his surroundings ever expressed that view, which even Russian and American politicians have. Japanese newspapers are saying how the Japanese government should monitor China in order to successfully discipline North Korea. How do they think they can monitor China and what kind of privilege does Japan have to do that any way? I’m almost certain that Japan, at least majority of its citizens, does not want a military action but to resolve this conflict through diplomatic dialogue....(By HASEGAWA Sumi)

北朝鮮報道、日本政府や大新聞に欠けている視点～コ ラム「乗松聡子の眼」

バンクーバーのピースフィロソフィーセンターの乗松聡子さんが、『琉球新報』に連

載している「乗松聡子の 眼」というコラムの9月19日に「偏向する北朝鮮報道、米日

こそ自制を」と題する文が出ている。これを読んで、私はこれこそ、今の日本政府、

日本の大新聞の朝鮮関係報道に最も欠けている視点だ と感じた。つまり、朝鮮、韓

国に住む、何千万の、政治に関係のな い一般市民を思いやる視点、その人たちの生

活を脅かしたくない という視点だ。ロシアやアメリカの政治家にさえある、その視

点が、安倍首相やその周りから、一度でも表明されたことがあるだろうか。新聞も制

裁を間違いなく遂行するために抜け道だらけの中国を監視すべきなどと、日本にどん

な権限があって、どこで監視するのかと聞きたいようなことを書いている。日本だっ

て、大部分の人が何はともあれ、外交交渉によって、現状を解決してもらいたい、

武力衝突など真っ平と思っているはずなのに…（長谷川澄）
