Protest demonstration at KDDI ~ demand to resume international operator work, reinstatement of dismissed workers
About 120 people demonstrated at KDDI headquarters in Tokyo on Dec. 3, led by international telephone operators who were unfairly dismissed at the end of September (See photo). The women who worked on limited-term contract were let go, along with their work place. The international telephone operating service links any call from across Japan to more than 230 regions in the world with the number 0051. The service plays a very important life line for emergency situations and for those who have little communication access. KDDI abandoned such heavy social responsibilities and betrayed its employees, as well as its users. To protest, the boycott campaign has been launched to end contract with au cellphones.
