Minimum wage of 1,500 yen for fast-food workers! 5/15 Fast-Food Global Campaign Action

On May 15th, a Fast-Food Global Campaign Action will be held under the slogan, “Minimum wage of 1,500 yen for fast-food workers!” The action in Tokyo will be at Shibuya starting at1 pm on May 15th. On this day, workers and unions across the world will stand up simultaneously against McDonald’s, the transnational corporation suppressing the wages and working conditions of workers worldwide. Workers from 35 countries including Japan are going to take part in the action. Workers in the fast-food and catering industry are mostly low-paid young workers deprived of workers’ rights. They are vulnerable for not being organized. The global action on May 15th is just the start of  international solidarity by these workers. Details of the action and the campaign strategy will be discussed at an international meeting scheduled from May 4th to 9th. Two members from the Tokyo Youth Workers’ Union will attend this meeting. The union is now calling for donations to send the delegates to the meeting, in New York, USA. (JINBU Akai, Tokyo Youth Workers’ Union)
