People object to lifting the specific evacuation zones, demand reassessment

About 150 people raised their voices against lifting of the designated evacuation points (lawsuit demanding withdrawal of the standard 20mSv per year) in Minamisoma at an event held in Tokyo on May 9th. (See photo) The participants from all across the nation, including Minamisoma City, Fukushima Prefecutre attended the event to support the lawsuit against the lifting of the evacuation zones.
The plaintiffs at the meeting explained one by one the reason to have joined in the lawsuit. The biggest reason, they said, is that their life was destroyed because of the nuclear disaster. While in many cases families were dispersed, others with young children became perplexed whether or not they should take refuge at a remote place. Such suffering has not yet faded away. Furthermore, the current situation in the designated area reportedly still had highly contaminated hot spots despite decontamination works, and the forests are left untouched as they can repeatedly get contaminated.  (By YUMOTO Masanori)
