Anti-nuke activist from India makes appeals at Friday demo

The day after the protest against the war law, which drew 9,000 people to the Diet, a routine Friday demo against nuclear energy took place on Nov. 20, again, drawing rows of people--some from India, Fukushima and Aomori.
What was noticeable was a protest speech from an Indian activist, Kumar Sundaram (photo), on Japan’s Prime Minister Abe is trying to sell nuclear technology to India. “Japan and India are ready to sign the nuclear treaty in December when Abe visits India,” he spoke in fluent Japanese. “Please oppose this treaty.” Abe is staging “a society where everyone participates” and became Obama’s “Yes man,” while big businesses are traveling around the world to make nuclear plants and weapons deals. The banners on this day spoke of people’s opposition to any of it. (By KINOSHITA Masaaki)
