Withdraw the dismissal! 3.1 strike action by public workers union

On March 1, 2016, the Tokyo Public Service General Workers Union that organizes non-regular government employees launched a strike in front of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building with labor and peace songs. The demand was the withdrawal of unlawful dismissal of NAKAJIMA Sachiko, a lecturer at a CAD (computer-aided design) drawing class of a vocational technical school and the leader of the union. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has abolished or outsourced many classes at the schools and dismissed many part-time instructors. The union has approximately 3,000 members, and her dismissal is a part of union-busting. The strike was joined by 111 members of various trade unions, such as the National Federation of Prefectural and Municipal Workers’ Unions, the Shinjuku Ward Union Federation, and dismissed JAL (Japan Airlines) workers. Nakajima expressed her determination to continue the struggle. The case of CAD classes is in trial at the Labour Committee of the Tokyo District Court. (M)
