Restart of nuclear power plants is bogus! Broadcasting from the Anti-Nuke Tent

On July 5, 2013, YANAGIDA Makoto (center in the photo) of Tampopo-sha Anti-Nuke Plaza said in front of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, “In Germany, demonstrations of more than 300,000 people led to the total phase-out of nuclear power. Japan also needs to build such a large movement as in Germany”. He also referred to the issue of applications for the restart of nuclear power plants in Japan. “The Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) approved the restart of the Oi Nuclear Power Plant that was never supposed to be allowed to restart. Oi has no seawall, quake-proof building or road for evacuation. The only thing the plant has is an active fault. This shows how untrustworthy the safety regulations of the NRA are. On July 8, four electric power companies in Japan applied the restart of six nuclear power plants they operate, but residents living near the plants will come to Tokyo to protest. Make our voice be heard to the NRA”, said Yanagida. (M)

Announcement of “Nuclear power plants ready to restart” infuriates demonstrators in front of Prime Minister’s Office

People gathered one after another in front of the Prime Minister’s Office after 6 PM on April 13, 2012 to join a demonstration organized through “TwitNoNukes” in Twitter. The overwhelming majority of the 1,600 demonstrators were youths. Placards saying, “Absolutely No to Restart of Oi Nuclear Power Plants”, filled the space in front of the office. Many of the demonstrators expressed their views, including those who traveled approximately 500 kilometers (300 miles) from Kyoto, women who were unlikely to join this kind of demonstration, and those who participated in it for the first time. Their remarks were full of anger, saying, “Why restart despite the devastation caused by the Fukushima disaster?” Their anger reached boiling point when they heard the organizer say, “It has been confirmed by the government that the nuclear power plants are ready to restart”. “Shame on you!” “Stop joking!” The chanting of the 1600 demonstrators resounded around the Prime Minister' s Office.
