On July 5, 2013, YANAGIDA Makoto (center in
the photo) of Tampopo-sha Anti-Nuke Plaza said in front of the Ministry of
Economy, Trade and Industry, “In Germany, demonstrations of more than 300,000
people led to the total phase-out of nuclear power. Japan also needs to build
such a large movement as in Germany”. He also referred to the issue of
applications for the restart of nuclear power plants in Japan. “The Nuclear
Regulation Authority (NRA) approved the restart of the Oi Nuclear Power Plant
that was never supposed to be allowed to restart. Oi has no seawall,
quake-proof building or road for evacuation. The only thing the plant has is an
active fault. This shows how untrustworthy the safety regulations of the NRA
are. On July 8, four electric power companies in Japan applied the restart of
six nuclear power plants they operate, but residents living near the plants
will come to Tokyo to protest. Make our voice be heard to the NRA”, said Yanagida. (M)
