Inamine, opponent to US base, wins mayoral election in Nago City – Against Prime Minister Abe’s arrogance

INAMINE Susumu, who has opposed the construction of a new US base in the Henoko district in Nago City, won the mayoral election. People in Okinawa clearly rejected Prime Minister Abe’s pro-US bases policies. After his victory was confirmed, Inamine thanked his supporters, “Still many hardships will lie ahead of us. There may be pressure from the national government. But so many people are behind me in Nago, Okinawa, Japan and even the world. Thank you very much for encouraging us!” People who came to his office expressed their joy by performing a local folk dance “Kachashi”.
