Labor Festival 2012: stand up against the harsh times to come!

Labor Festival 2012 was held on December 15 at R’s Artcourt in Shin-okubo, Tokyo. It was the last day of the general election campaign, but 130 people attended the annual festival. It started with a documentary film “X years after” and ended with singing “We Shall Overcome 2012” with singer NAKAGAWA Goro. The audience seemed fully satisfied with the program; some said it was the best ever Labor Festival. The program included works concerning Nuclear Fallout at Bikini Atoll, Ashio Copper Mine Pollution, The Paris Commune and the ant-Vietnam War Movement, which are all connected to our present situation. The audience sang a campaign song for Tokyo Governor candidate Utsunomiya with the composer Johnny H. The cultural festival raised our spirits for standing up against the harsh times anticipated after the election. (M)

厳しい時代に立ち向かう文化～レイバーフェスタ2012成功裏に終了

12 月15日、レイバーフェスタ2012が東京・新大久保アールズアートコートで開かれた。選挙戦最終日の中だったが130人が集まった。映画『Ｘ年後』から フィナーレの中川五郎（写真）と歌う「ウィ・シャル・オーバーカム2012（大きな壁が崩れる）」まで盛り沢山だったが、充実した内容に観客も大満足。 「今までのフェスタで一番よかった」の声をいただいた。演目の中には、ビキニ被ばく・足尾鉱毒事件・パリコミューン・ベトナム反戦なども出てきたが、それ らはすべて今の日本に生きる私たちにリンクして迫ってきた。ジョニーHの「東京なのに宇都宮」では会場一体となって大合唱。選挙の行方を案じ、厳しい時代 に立ち向かう文化の祭典となった。またワープア川柳の特選には「議事堂が小さく見える金曜日」が選ばれた。（M）

Suporuto Union fights vulture fund

Suporuto Co. (main office in Shijuku, Tokyo) has 16 bowling stadiums nationwide. The company was taken over by Koshidaka Holding Co. in 2010. The new company proposed a 10% wage cut and abolition of the annual bonus pay and retirement allowance. 51 workers organized a Suporuto Local of the Tokyo Managerial Workers’ in February 2012 to fight back against the ruthless exploitation. The union has made steady progress. They stopped the wage cut in spring 2012, won 1.5 months bonus pay in the summer and changed the status of some of the contract workers to regular workers.

組合つくってハゲタカファンドに反撃～ボーリング場経営のスポルト

ス ポルト（本社：東京・新宿区）は全国１６カ所に営業所を展開するボーリング場経営を主たる業務とする会社である。一昨年、国産ハゲタカファンド腰高グルー プに買収され、 （1）昨年４月から賃金一律１０％カット（2）夏・冬一時金廃止（3）退職金制度廃止、というまったく従業員からの収奪をもとに金目の物を奪い取ることを 目的としたとしか言えない「提案」を突きつけられた。それに対し従業員は５１名の結集のもと、昨年２月東京管理職ユニオン（MU）スポルト支部を結成し反 撃を開始。春期の闘いで賃金カットを阻止、夏期の闘いでは、一時金１,５ヶ月の獲得、一部であるが、契約社員の正社員化の実現など、着々と成果を拡大し た。（東京管理職ユニオン・安部誠） 報告・東京管理職ユニオン

What did the youths see at the front? Iraq returnees uncover the truth on the Labornet TV

Labornet TV on December 5 live broadcasted interview with two returning US soldiers from Iraq, Aaron Hughes and Ash Woolson. They went to Iraq in 2003 in their early twenties and were drilled in the technique of killing people. “The training started from teaching your muscles to shoot anything moving. I had believed that we were going to Iraq to defeat the dictator ship and to support the peaceful living of the Iraqis. I found out that I was deceived.” They described the reality of the occupation, as if it were yesterday. “ Sexism and racism seep in you at the front. You start calling every Iraqi, “Haji”, which is a derogatory term. When you are de-humanized, it becomes easier to kill and you don’t suffer from killing.” They spoke of how they ran over and killed an Iraqi girl with their military truck. (M)

若者が戦場で見たものは～「レイバーネットTV」イラク帰還米兵が語った真実

12 月5日の「レイバーネットTV」にイラク帰還米兵アーロン＆アッシュさんが生出演した。二人は2003年イラク占領に従軍した。当時20台前半の彼らはま ず、どうしたら人を殺せるかを徹底的に訓練された。「動くものを即座に撃つことを筋肉に覚えさせることから始まった。イラクへ行くのは、独裁者を倒し人々 の生活を援助し平和のために行くと信じていた。しかし裏切られた」。二人は昨日のことのように占領下の実態を語った。「戦地に行くと性差別・人種差別が身 についてくる。イラク人を“ハジ”という差別語で呼んだ。非人間化すると殺しやすくなるし、殺しても悩まなくなる」。そして彼らはイラクの少女をトラック でひき殺す事態を起こしてしまった。（M）
