“No wars! No Yasukuni!” - 250 gather for annual anti-Yasukuni action on August 15

The annual rally and march against Yasukuni, the shrine that commemorates those who had died in service of the emperor of Japan including a number of Class A war criminals from the WWII, was held in Tokyo on August 15, the day Imperial Japan surrendered to the allied powers in 1945. In the call for action this year, the organizers denounced the delusive “remembrance of the war victims and prayer for peace” by the Abe administration that approved the use of right to collective self-defense by re-interpreting the constitution in July. The venue of the rally was packed with more participants, including a greater number of youths, than last year. KITAMURA Sayo, a retired teacher, spoke of her own experience during the war. “Everyone could be labeled a spy any time. Trust among people was lost completely. We must not return to those days without humanity,” she stressed.  The right-wingers attacked the protesters during the march to the shrine more violently this year.  From time to time, they broke through the mass of riot police walking alongside the marchers and took away banners, tore them and threw plastic bottles of drinks while swearing at the marchers with loud speakers all the time.  However, the march was completed in about an hour with no casualty among the participants. 「戦争反対、靖国反対」約250人が声上げる～8.15反「靖国」行動

 
8 月15日、「安倍戦争国家の『追悼』を許さない！ 8.15反『靖国』行動」が行われた。会場の東京・全水道会館には、時代の危機 を反映してか、昨年を上回る人たちでぎっしり。若者の姿も増えた。戦争体験 のある元教員・北村小夜さんが講演し、「人をみたらスパイ、人を信じられなくなるのが戦争社会。絶対繰り返してはならない」と訴えた。デモでは、例年以上 に右翼の攻撃的姿勢が目立った。警察も大量の機動隊員を動員して、デモ隊を二重にも三重にもブロックして併走した。右翼グループ はハンドマイクでがなりた てながら、デモ隊に突っ込んできたり、横断幕を奪ったり、ペットボトルを投げつけたりとやりたい放題。しかし、デモ隊は「戦争反対、靖国反対」のコールを しながら整然と進み、けが人も逮捕者も出さすに無事約1時間のデモを貫徹 した。（M）

“Abe, get out!” - Bulldozer Demonstration takes Shibuya by storm of anger

A bulldozer led the protest march against the nationalist administration of Prime Minister ABE Shinzo on August 2 in Shibuya, a shopping district in Tokyo. With the sign saying “This machine kills fascists” (written in English) on its back, the bulldozer caught  the eyes of surprised passers by on busy streets.  The demonstration was organized by Tokyo Democracy Network, the coalition of several civic groups including Drums of Protest, the regulars of protest actions. The drummers marched through Shibuya and Harajuku areas with other demonstrators chanting “Abe, get out!” and “Off the dirty hands from our constitution!” in the blazing sun.  Many of the marchers were smiling and playing musical instruments cheerfully, but signs, speeches and tense expressions they sometimes showed reflected their anger towards the administration cabinet  that approval of the use of collective self-defense right with re-interpretation of the constitution in July. People on the streets seemed to have appreciated the demonstration, many showing their support by waving to the marchers. The reporter was convinced that this demonstration of 3000 participants, according to the organizer, would accelerate the decline of approval rate of the Abe administration.  (By M)

渋谷を席巻した「怒りのブルドーザーデモ」～「安倍 やめろ」のコールやまず
 
8 月2日、炎天下の東京・渋谷の繁華街にブルドーザーが登場した。沿道の人たちもビッ クリだ。ブルドーザーには「この機械はファシストをやっつける」の英語 文字ポスターが貼られていた。主催は、東京デモクラシーネットワークで、「怒りのドラムデモ」はじめ様々なグループの連合体だ。デモ隊は、ドラムのリズム にあわせて「安倍やめろ！憲法こわすな！」のコールを続け、渋谷・原宿一帯を席巻した。音楽に乗せた楽しいデモだが、プラカード の訴えやマイクアピール、 人々の表情の中を見ていると、笑顔のなかにも「怒りと険しさ」があった。7月1日「集団的自衛権・ 解釈改憲」を強行した安倍政権に対する危機感だろう。デ モに対する沿道の反応はよく、手を振る姿が多く見られた。安倍政権への支持率低下を加速するブルドーザーデモとなった。参加者は3000人（主催者発表） だった。（M）

“Stop massacre in Gaza immediately!” - Action in Tokyo on the Day of Rage

A protest against the Israeli attack on Gaza was staged in Tokyo as well on August 9 in response to “Gaza Calling: All out on Saturday 9 August Day of Rage,” the call for a worldwide action from the people of occupied and besieged Gaza.  As the police closed down the road in front of the Israeli embassy, about 80 protesters gathered on the pedestrian path in front of a nearby TV station.  “Stop the massacre immediately!” “Shame on Israel!” Their chants echoed in the area, though a large number of police officers occupied the pedestrian path and forced the demonstrators to spread in a row along the TV station's premises. “Today's protest is an urgent action. The cease fire was broken in Gaza. The death toll has exceeded 2000, but likely to increase under the circumstances. Let's raise our voices all over the world. Let's take to the streets and protest!” urged SUGIHARA Koji, a member of the organizing group.  (M)

In the rally and march held in Shinjuku, in Tokyo on Sunday August 3, about 600 participants denounced the Israeli military and the Japanese government that support the Israel offensive in the vicinity of one of the Tokyo's main train stations. 「大量虐殺今すぐやめろ！」～〈怒りの土曜日〉イス ラエル大使館に抗議

 
8 月9日午後、緊急行動として「〈怒りの土曜日〉ガザ連帯世界アクション・イスラエル 大使館抗議！」が実施され、約80人の人々が東京・イスラエル大使館周 辺で抗議の声をあげた。警察は大使館前の道路を封鎖し、参加者を近づけようとはしない。日本テレビ前の歩道は警察官が制圧。集 まった人々は1列に並んで怒 りのコールを繰り返した。主催者の一人・杉原浩司さんは、「本日は緊急に抗議をすることになりました。現地では停戦が破られ、すでに2000人の死者が出 ている。このままいけばガザでの死者がさらに増える。全世界で声をあげてほしい。街頭に出て欲しい」と訴えた。「大量虐殺今すぐやめろ！」「イスラエルは 恥を知れ！」。ドラムのリズムに合わせて、力強いコールが大使館周辺に響いていた。（Ｙ） 写真速報

8 月3日、東京・新宿の新宿駅東口アルタ前で、「ガザの人々を殺すな！8.3 新宿デモ」が行われた。参加者は約600人。集まった人々は、プラカードや旗を掲げて駅周辺を練り歩き、ガザに対し て一方的な攻撃を繰り返すイスラエル軍 と、その大量殺りくを支える日本政府を厳しく糾弾した。灼熱の太陽が容赦なく照りつける日曜の午後。アルタ前の狭いエリアが参加者で埋まった。集合時間の 14時を過ぎると国富健治さん（反安保実）の司会で集会が始まった。国富さん は、「無差別大量虐殺で、すでに1600人を超える人々が殺されたと言わ れて いる。イスラエルの残虐な行為を絶対に許さない。ガザの人々の怒りと悲しみに応えよう。暑いなかがんばってデモをやり抜こう」と呼びかけた。（Ｙ）
