Labornet TV features Fukushima Daiichi situation

Nuclear specialist YAMAZAKI Hisataka appeared on Labornet TV on April 8^th to report on the situation of Fukushima Daiichi reactor, 4 years after the disaster. “Contaminated water mixed with nuclear fuel has been leaking for over 4 years. We still don’t know where the melted fuel is. The only progress up to now is that the spent fuel in No.4 reactor has been removed and debris around the plants has been cleared away. TEPCO is still trying to stop the leakage of contaminated water and cannot start the decommissioning process. There are still 1573 spent fuel rods remaining in the No. 1 to No. 3 reactors. It will be disastrous if the reactors collapse in another earthquake.” Newscaster, MATSUMOTO Chie’s reaction was just one word, “Hopeless!” Every day 7000 workers are sent in todo dangerous work at Fukushima Daiichi.  「冷却水と核燃料がまざった汚染水のダダ漏れが4年間続いている。しかもメルトアウトした核燃料は、どこにいったのかさえわからない」。原発事故から4年、フ クイチの現状を専門家の山崎久隆さんが4月8日の「レイバーネットTV」で詳しく解説した。「これまでの成果は、建屋周りの瓦礫を撤去したことと4号機の 使用済み燃料を移動したことくらい。いまは汚染水と格闘している状況で、廃炉作業に手をつけることもできていない」と厳しい現実を語った。「しかも1～3 号機には合計1573体の使用済み核燃料が残っており、地震などで崩れると大変なことになる」と警告も。話を聞いた松元ちえキャスターの第一声は「ホープ レス！」だった。汚染がひどい中、危険な作業に今も一日7000人が狩り出されている。「福島を解決せずに再稼動などとんでもない」、政府と東電の大ウソ に改めて怒りを新たにする番組となった。（М） 　＊写真＝ゲストの山崎久隆さん・渕上太郎さん

Decommissioning worker at Fukushima Daiichi talks about constant fear of radioactive exposure, frequent accidents and extremely poor accommodations

A worker of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant came to Tokyo on Jan. 31 to meet with a group of concerned citizens. He, referred to as Mr. A in the meeting, a manual laborer engaged in decommissioning of the reactors, gave an detailed account of the difficult working and living conditions for workers at the nuclear power plant crippled with the earthquake and tsunami disasters in March, 2011 to an audience of more than 50, far exceeding the expectation of the organizer of the meeting. Mr. A worked for the Japan Post until his retirement in the spring of 2013. He started working in Namie-machi, Fukushima Prefecture in February, 2014. After working for decontamination in the town for several months, he started working at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in August. ”When I retired, I thought of moving to Fukushima. I wanted to work there and observe the historic turning point for Japan with my own eyes. Many workers are needed for decommissioning of reactors at Fukushima Daiichi and I thought older people should take the task rather than risking the lives of young people,” he explained the motive. He is currently engaged in disposing documents, other burnable and hazardous wastes. Arriving at the J Village, the base for the workers of Fukushima Diichi, at around 6.30 a.m. and going through routine checks and changing clothes, he starts working around 9.30 a.m. He works for 2-3 hours each day. “It’s not tough physically, but we always feel the fear of radioactive exposure,” he said and went on to elaborate the working and living conditions of decommissioning workers.  (By SASAKI Yumi)

被曝の恐怖、頻発する事故、タコ部屋～原発廃炉作業 員が生々しい実態語る
 

 1 月31日 東京・秋葉原で、「福島第一原発で働く現役廃炉作業員の話を聞く会」が開かれた。参加者は予想を大きく上回り50名を超えた（写真）。現役作業員 のAさ んは、東京の元郵便屋さん。一昨年春に定年退職し、昨年2月から福島県浪 江町で除染作業に従事。その後8月から第一原発で働くようになった。その 動 機をAさんは「定年退職を機に、歴史の結節点としての福島を、働きな がらこの目で見たいと考えた。誰かがやらなくてはいけない仕事、若い人より中高年が行 くべきだとも思った」と話す。Aさんの現在の仕事は、3・4号機の可燃物（書類など）と危険物の処理だ。朝の6時半ごろ、ビレッジにつき検査や着替えをす ませ現場作業は9時過ぎから。実働は1日2時間から3時間。肉体的 にはそれほどきつくはないと言う。（佐々木有美）

Petition To Stop Release Of Radioactive Water From Fukushima Into Pacific Ocean

Dear Friends,

Evidently this new petition has struck a deep chord.  In less than 24 hours, there are over 200 signers, many from Europe. 

Briefly, there are 866 storage tanks at Fukushima Daiichi, each holding 1000 TONS of highly radioactive water, which has been used to cool the reactor cores.  This makes a total of 866,000 TONS of water, with 350 tons added every day.  In addition, there are 13,400 tons of highly contaminated water in Reactor 1, 15,800 tons in Reactor 2, 16,900 tons in Reactor 3 and no more fuel but 14,500 tons of water in Reactor 4, a total of 60,600 tons! The Japan NRA wants all this water to be discharged into the Pacific, as the site is running out of space to build more tanks.
