Demanding social insurance, paid holidays, worker gets dismissed

Unionists and activists protested at ICC School in Yokohama on July 22 in support of Sulejman Brkic, a language teacher of more than 20 years who filed a lawsuit against the school for unfair dismissal.

 “Ever since its establishment, this school has evaded paying for insurance for no worker except for the receptionists,” Brkic (photo right) said, expressing his anger. “It won’t let us take our paid holidays. It’s not just me.”

 Students who came out for lunch from the neighboring cram schools and vocational schools paid attention to his claim.

社会保険と有給休暇を 求めたらクビ？～ＩＣＣ外語学院横浜校前で抗議行動

 7月22日、スレイマン・ブルキッチさんのICC外語学院による不当解雇に対する抗議行動が横 浜校前で行われた。炎天下であたたまった生ぬるい風が抜ける中、12時30分頃から1時間ほど行われた行動 には、全国一般労働組合東京南部の組合員他、フェイスブックで行動を知った派遣労働者を含む約10名が 駆けつけた。スレイマンさん（写真）は「この会社は設立以来、受付スタッフを除いて、誰も社会保険に 加入させていない。有給休暇も取らせない。私だけじゃない」と怒りを露わにした。ICC外語学院の近隣に は予備校や専門学校があり、昼食を求めて外出してきた学生たちもスレイマンさんの言葉に耳を傾けてい た。7月23日午前10時半より、東京高裁511号法廷で控訴審がはじまる。（土屋トカチ） 報告

Silent demo against ICC Language School dismissal case

After working for 20 years at ICC Language School, Sulejman Brkic, a teacher of French and English, was summarily dismissed when he asked for a paid leave. The school’s reply was that he was not an employee, but on a service contract, so he had no right to a paid leave.

On June 28^th, Brkic held a silent demonstration at the school’s main office in Yokohama. From 9 am to 7 pm, he stood silently in the rain with a placard in his hand. He didn’t sit nor eat, just took some water. He said he was encouraged by kind words from a passerby.The action was supported by  Zenkoku Ippan Tokyo General Union members and five other participants. (TSUCHIYA Tokachi)

スレイマンさんが「サイレント・デモ」～ICC外語学院不当解雇事件
 
6 月28日(土)、スレイマン・ブルキッチさんのICC外語学院による不当解雇に対する「サイレント・デモ」が横浜にある本社前で行われた。時折、小雨に降 られながらも朝9時から夜7時まで、プラカードを持ったまま立つだけの抗議行動に、スレイマンさんは終始、食事も摂らず座ることもせず、水分補給のみで静 かに立ち続けた。行動には全国一般東京ゼネラル労組の組合員他、5名ほどの方が駆けつけた。通りかかったある親子から「がんばってください」と声をかけら れたことが嬉しいと、スレイマンさんは語った。スレイマンさんはICC外語学院で20年間、英語とフランス語の講師として働いてきた。有給休暇の取得を求 めたところ、会社側から「社員ではなく業務委託なので、有給休暇はない」と回答され、その後突然解雇された。（土屋トカチ）
