Tokyo Metro vendors demand company share employees’ working conditions

Nearly 100 people gathered at the Tokyo District Court in support for the women who work at vendors at Tokyo subway stations and their second hearing on July 17. The plaintiffs demand that the company stop discriminating against precarious workers like themselves by paying low wages. The subsidiary of Tokyo Metro, Metro Commerce Co., was to report the pay scales of three types of employment contracts at the hearing. The wages rules for the lifetime employment contract that the company submitted says, “The amount of payment is set separately according to job rank and age.” (By SUDA Mitsuteru)

東京メトロ・メトロコマースは非正規差別の実態を明らかにしろ！～第2回裁判報告

東京メトロの地下鉄駅売店で働く非正規労働者の女性たちでつくる全国一般東京東部労組メトロコマース支部が、雇用主である東京メトロ子会社の株式会社メトロ コマース支部に対し、正社員との賃金差別をなくすよう求めた裁判の第2回口頭弁論が7月17日に東京地裁であり、支援に駆けつけた東部労組各支部や友好労 組の仲間ら約90人で傍聴席はあふれました。この日の法廷で焦点となったのは、会社側が組合員を含めた契約社員Ｂと正社員・契約社員Ａとの間でどれぐらい の賃金格差を設けてきたかという実態を明らかにするかどうかでした。会社側は正社員の賃金規則を提出してきましたが、そこには「その額は別に定める職務給 表と年齢給表による」などと書かれています。（須田光照）

Non-regular kiosk workers on strike! – Rally in front of Tokyo Metro

“We non-regular workers are not subjected to sympathy or relief, but can win our rights by ourselves”. This is a belief of non-regular workers of Tokyo Metro who went on strike on May Day. They also filed a lawsuit against their employer, Tokyo Metro’s subsidiary for violating Article 20 of the Labor Contract Act. On this day, 280 supporters of the striking workers held a protest meeting in front of the headquarters of Tokyo Metro in the Ueno district, central Tokyo. Five members of the Metro Commerce local of the National Union of General Workers Tokyo Tobu expressed their determination to win the lawsuit. (MATSUMOTO Chie)

非正規売店員がストライキ決行！～東京メトロ本社前に怒りの280人

非正規労働者は同情されたり救済されるのではなく、勇気をもって自分の足で立ち上がり権利を勝ち取っていける――東京メトロ売店の非正規販売員の女性たちがこんな思いを胸に、５月１日のメ―デ―にふたたびストライキを決行した。同時に、全国の非正規労働者に率先して、改正労働契約法の２０条違反だとして東京地裁に雇用主の東京メトロコマース社を提訴した。この日、日比谷や代々木で労働組合がメーデーの式典を開催した後、２８０名の仲間が、東京・上野にある親会社の東京メトロ本社前に結集した。集会では、全国一般東京東部労組メトロコマース支部の5名の組合員が、それぞれストと裁判への決意を語った。（松元ちえ）

Tokyo Subway Newsstand Vendors on Casual Contract Talk About Strike on Labornet TV

Three of six women vendors of Tokyo subway newsstands who went on strike in March  appeared in the labornet TV program on April 11 (see photo). "We were scared about possible negative impacts of the strike. We were shivering in fact. But we are truly happy with what we have done," they said. They work for Metro Commerce Co., a subsidiary of Tokyo Metro, on limited-term contract. After patiently negotiating with the company to improve the discriminatory conditions imposed on casual workers for years, they went on strike on March 18 in demand for abolishing the retirement age system. (For details of the epoch-making strike, see the article of April 7) "We were afraid that the customers would complain about the inconvenience caused. On the contrary, many of them encouraged us on the following day. Some said they had seen the youtube video and offered handshakes. This made us realize that many people are unsatisfied with their wages, but enduring just like us. We feel as if we had entered into the society for the first time with the strike. We are truly happy with the support extended by so many people. We feel confident and encouraged with the fact that we raised our voice and many people responded to our call," said USHIRO Ryoko, the president of the Metro Commerce local of National Union of General Workers Tokyo Tobu. The strike resulted in the six-month extension of the contract for SENUMA Kyoko, one of the members. "I think it is worthwhile devoting myself to the labor union movement. 震えたけどたたかってよかった～「レイバーネットTV」で東京メトロ売店の非正規女性たち

「怖かった、足が震えた。でもたたかってよかった」。4月11日の「レイバーネットTV」に出演した東京メトロ売店で働く3人の女性は異口同音に語った（写真）。差別と切り捨てに我慢ならず6人で決行した3月18日のストライキ。日本でも画期的な非正規ストだった。後呂（うしろ）良子委員長は語る。「その翌日、お客に文句を言われるかと思った。でもちがった。動画を見たよ、と握手を求める人もいた。みんな“もっとやれ”という。そうかみんな安い賃金で我慢している人ばかりなんだ。ストライキで初めて世の中に一歩踏みだした気がした。多くの支援がうれしかった。私たちでも発信してこんな大きなことが出来るのだ。自信、力が湧いてきた」。実際、このストライキで会社は譲歩。瀬沼京子組合員の半年間の雇用延長を勝ち取った。瀬沼さんは「ユニオン活動は、人生を賭ける価値あるものと思った。これからも頑張りたい」と胸を張った。（M） 写真速報・放送アーカイブ（85分 特集は8分から）・3.18ストライキ映像
