“2017 First Action” for a new stage of joint struggle of opposition parties and the people

On January 7, 2017, 2,500 people joined this street action at the West Exit of Shinjuku Railway Station, central Tokyo. Representatives of four opposition parties delivered speeches at this “2017 First Action” – AZUMI Jun, senior leader of the Democratic Party; SHII Kazuo, leader of the Japanese Communist Party; AOKI Ai, deputy director of the Liberal Party; and FUKUSHIMA Mizuho, vice head of the Social Democratic Party. One of passers-by stopped there to listen to them, saying, “I was not interested in politics but am a little interested in the joint struggle of the opposition parties”. Azumi of the Democratic Party clarified, “This year, we would like to confront a candidate of the Liberal Democratic Party, the major party, one on one at every constituency”. The future of the Democratic Party, the biggest opposition, has been at stake. It is up to the people to support the joint struggle. (YUMOTO Masanori)
