Nine years struggle at the Japan Red Cross ends

On March 26th, the nine years struggle of HIROSE Akemini ended with an ex-officio settlement at the Tokyo High Court. But she alleged that she was forced to do jobs other than those designated by the temp contract. She demanded direct employment with the Red Cross but was finally dismissed in 2009. When she took her case to the Tokyo District Court she failed to win reinstatement, although the court ruled that the temping contract was illegal. Her case was pending at the Tokyo High Court, but the Red Cross and the temporary agency finally agreed to compensate her and settle the case. Hirose held a news conference on April 1st, expressing her thanks for the support she received during the nine years struggle.

Futenma was stolen from us and should be returned unconditionally

On April 6th, a protest action was held at the Ministry of Defense in Tokyo. Organized by the Committee to Fight the Construction of Henoko Base, the action started at 6:30 pm. with songs by members of the Japan Musicians' Association, who ignored  the attempted interference by right wing groups waving the Hinomaru, the national flag of Japan. After the chanting, Okinawa-born SHIMABUKURO Yoshihiro made a powerful speech; “The land for the Futenma Base was taken away from us by bayonets and bulldozers. The US government is a thief. Futenma should be returned unconditionally. The responsibility lies with the government, and not with Okinawans. The government says we should find a place to relocate Futenma, but that is nonsense.” (OZAWA Kuniko)
