Friday demo demand decommissioning of Monju, never restart Ikata nuclear plant

On Nov. 6, the routine Friday demonstration began. It was a nice sunny day, which drew more people to the demonstration near the Diet building. I first stopped by the METI tent, whose appeal of the lower court ruling was dismissed by the Tokyo high court just 10 days ago. But the tent was still standing, with the banner that reads, We wont let them take away our tent. I also saw the surveillance camera that METI set up. The sign at the tent read, 1518 days.
Many people at the Friday demo spoke about Monju fast breeder reactor and its decommissioning. Of all the people, FUJINO Yasufumi, Japan Communist Party member, explained very well, The nuclear regulatory agency is only saying the management should be replaced. It never suggested decommissioning of Monju. The business itself is wrong. (By KINOSHITA Masaaki)

‘Importance of Continuation’ ~Demonstration against Restart of Nuke Plant

Protesters rallied in front of the Prime Minister’s Office and the Diet Building on the cool night of Sept. 26. Many held a sign stating “Don’t Restart Sendai Nuke Plant.”  This was the 119th of the Friday anti-nuclear demonstration, which has been held every week in front of the Prime Minister’s Office. Misao REDWOLF from the Metropolitan Coalition against Nukes, the organizer of the event, said, “I have attended the demonstration every Friday, that is to say, 119 times. There are not as many people as before, but the number of demonstrators stays consistent these days.” She emphasized the importance of continuing the protest saying, “By gathering here, we’d like to keep sending a message to the pro-nuke people that the voices against nuclear plants have not been toned down.” Lawmaker KIRA Yoshiko, a regular attendant of the protest, gave a pep talk, “We will squarely confront pro-nuke Prime Minister Abe in the extraordinary Diet session. Let’s fight together in and outside of the Diet!” An elderly woman who sat alone on the ground holding a banner of anti-nuke in her hand said, “I just came out of hospitalization in September, but from now on I’ll come every Friday without fail.” (By M)

Demonstration against Nuke in Business Suits ~Office Workers are also Angry!

A group of businessmen in suits appeared around Shimbashi Station in Tokyo one evening in October. Nothing unusual about the businessmen at a crowded train station with office workers hurrying their way home from work, except this time, they chanted slogans against nuclear energy.
Lets join the demonstration in business suits, about 600 people chanted as they marched for an hour in the evening of Oct. 30. We protest in a modest way. Raising voices is nothing special. We are ordinary office workers who work and live ordinarily. Let the people in the business district hear our voices.
The demonstration in business suits was proposed this summer by some people at the weekly Friday demonstration against nuclear power at the Diet building.

Friday No-nukes Demo report / Koide attends beating a small drum

I took part in the Friday No-nukes Demonstration on August 30. Scorching heat was back again, and KOIDE Hiroaki, an assistant professor at Kyoto University, attended the demo for the first time with a small drum in his hand. He greeted the participants by saying, “I have long wanted to participate in this demo. I’m glad to have come here for the first time and meet many active people. I am thankful for all the people who have been fighting since the Fukushima disaster. I will keep on fighting to abolish all nuclear power plants.” He was warmly welcomed by all the people.
At this moment in Fukushima Power Plant, 300 tons of toxic groundwater is leaking to the sea every day. Highly contaminated water counting 100 millisieverts per hour was also leaking from a storage tank, leading directly to sea through a drainage channel. If a person stays near for 2 days, the mortality rate is 50 percent. This is not a simple “contaminated water leakage”.! (Shinya)

(Shinya
