Public workers union wages a strike against the Tokyo Metropolitan Government over an unfair dismissal

On October 30, 2015, demonstrators were singing labor and protest songs, such as “International” and “We Shall Overcome”, in front of the building of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The General Union of Public Workers in Tokyo (Tokyo Komu Kokyo Ippan) organized the strike, demanding the unfair dismissal of NAKAJIMA Sachiko be revoked. Nakajima, the chairperson of the union, was a part-time lecturer at the Tokyo Metropolitan Vocational Skills Development Center but was fired due to an “abolition of classes” in the name of outsourcing to the private sector. Three union members among 34 dismissed lecturers are on trial for their reinstatement. The union insists that this case is union busting. GOTO Michio, one of the supporters and a sociologist, enthusiastically said, “The scale of strike is much smaller now, compared with that 40 years ago. The silence of workers allows the prevailing poverty and precarious employment and the arrogance of the government. Now it’s time to go on strike!” Nakajima strongly said, “The General Union of Public Workers has protected 4,000 jobs for 25 years since its establishment. We have to win”. 東京都庁前に響く歌声～公共一般労組、中嶋委員長の解雇撤回もとめストライキ

10月30日昼、東京都庁前では「インタナショナル」「We shall overcome」や労働歌、反戦歌のうたごえが響き渡った。この日、東京公務公共一般労組は、中嶋祥子委員長の不当解雇撤回を求めてストライキに立ち上がった。中嶋さんは、都の職業能力開発センター（職業訓練校）の非常勤講師だったが、民間委託に名を借りた「廃科」で解雇された。34名がクビになったが3名の組合員が現在、原職復帰を求めて裁判中である。組合は委員長を狙った「組合つぶし」であるとして、全力をあげて取り組み、この日のストライキとなった。支援者の社会学者・後藤道夫さんは「40年前と比較するとストライキ規模は300分の1になった。労働者が声を上げないことが、今の貧困・非正規の蔓延と政府の横暴を許している。今こそストライキの復権を！」と熱く訴えた。中嶋委員長は「公共一般労組は結成以来25年で4千人の雇用を守ってきた。つぶされるわけにはいかない」と強い思いを語った。参加者は125人だった。（M）
