We don’t need Maglev Train--the largest, worst environmental disaster in history
The magnetically levitated train is to start operation in 2027. The plan is already in place for construction, but the citizens’ protest is recently gaining momentum in Shizuoka Prefecture. When nearly 100 people gathered for an event on Sept. 25, they reconfirmed various environmental issues Maglev Train is said to cause to the local communities as well as to the world. While voices calling to protect the Southern Alps in Shizuoka City, Mayor TANABE Nobuhiro expressed his hope to raise a national awareness on this issue. With the Southern Alps being approved as UNESCO's Eco-Park in June, people in Shizuoka are determined to call on the international community to support their cause and to join the protest.
